New Music Thursday??

Yes, it is Thursday. Yes, I'm a few days late. Deal with it. Tonight I have a special treat for you, loyal Skog Blog Readers. A local band coming straight out of the greater O-town area - The Codi Jordan Band. When you first hear this band you might say, "hmm, sounds like Jack Johnson mixed with Sublime." However, after repeated spins of the disc or plays on your personal listening device you will realize that it is much more. They have a sound that is familiar yet fresh. An excellent combo of folk, pop and reggae. You can hear and purchase their album on either of the following websites:

I'm personally quite fond of Mess and Snow Falls Down and Shake Suga Shake will be the song of the Summer of 2009. Mark my words. It is that damn catchy. In fact, if there is one beef with this album it is that it came out during the wrong time of the year. It definitely feels like the type of album you would blast while having a BBQ with friends in the summer. With some good fortune and support from all of us, by the time summer rolls around the Codi Jordan Band will be picking up steam and blaring from car stereos from coast to coast. Give it a listen. Buy one for yourself and one for your closest 10 friends. It will make a great Christmas gift and stocking stuffer.

Some Minor Housekeeping and A Quick Confession

I realize this is last minute but just a reminder that the First Annual (quarterly, bi-annual, to be determined) Skog Blog Meet and Greet will be held at the Bishop Allen concert at Kilby Court TONIGHT! Be on the lookout for two 'husky' gents with beards and one lovely young lady with a striking resemblance to Juno.

Here is the info as reported in the SL Trib:

Bishop Allen (Skog Blog Meet and Greet)

The Brooklyn indie-rockers took their name from Bishop Allen Drive in Cambridge, Mass., where the two frontmen lived together after attending Harvard. The smarty pants have a song, "Middle Management," included on the soundtrack of "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist." An Horse and Drew Banbury are also on the bill. The band is thrilled to be headlining the First Ever Skog Blog Meet and Greet.

When » Friday at 7

Where » Kilby Court, 741 S. 300 West, Salt Lake City

Tickets » $8 at SmithsTix

Here is a little reminder of them in case you have forgotten.

And for my quick confession. If listening to the same song 83 times in one week is wrong than I don't wanna be right. I can NOT get enough of this song. I usually don't like to listen to things over and over and over but by gosh I had this sucker on repeat daily for hours at a time.

We Are Scientists - After Hours (Stay tuned for more about these guys on Monday perhaps...)

Monday Night - The Music You Should Be Listening To Right Now

I'm getting old. Really old. I often joke that I have the body of an 80 year old man. How does one know when they are getting old? Sign # 1 - hair begins to grow in places were it hasn't and shouldn't grow. Sign # 2 - you start shopping for minivans. I did this on Saturday. I don't want to talk about it any more. Sign # 3 - you hear the favorite band from your youth on a 'Classic Rock' station.

Saturday while I was driving to test drive, uh, sports cars (wink!) I turn my radio to Arrow 103.5 and what do my ears hear? Huey Lewis and the News. Seriously. Classic rock is supposed to be The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zep, or the Doors. Not Huey Lewis and the News. Not the greatest band I ever heard while attending Bell View Elementary. Once I got over the shock of the situation my mind reflected upon the goodness that is Huey Lewis and the News. Their discography is full of great albums and soundtrack contributions. However, their greatest achievement and honestly a top 5 album of all time in the Skog Blog book is Fore. Not a single bad track on the disc. I wore out two copies of the cassette back in the day and it was one of the first CDs that I purchased with my own money.

Below are as many of the classic videos from Fore that I can find. And by the way, tonight IS Monday not Friday. Wheels just mocked me and said this should be a confession. Well guess what, there is no shame in loving Huey Lewis and the News. Fore is Music That You Should Be Listening to Right Now!

Blankie: October 14, 2004 - November 2, 2008

November 2, 2008

P's Blankie passed away suddenly and without fanfare on Sunday afternoon. Blankie was born on October 14, 2004 at the G House in Sandy, UT. Lovingly handcrafted by P's Grammie Sue, Blankie served very well in all capacities. Nurturer, comforter, vomit catcher and friend are just a few of the ways she will be remembered.

Blankie was a real trooper. She went through approximately 3000 gentle cycles in her lifetime. Towards the later years she suffered through sewing surgery after sewing surgery, fighting for her life each time. Sadly, the multiple facelifts took their toll on Blankie and there just wasn't any more fabric left to give.

Blankie will be laid to rest at the Davis County landfill. No public ceremonies have been planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, Blankie's family asks that donations be made to http://www.quiltsforkids.org/.

This Is Halloween

Is that time again loyal Skog Blog Readers. Time for the obligatory Halloween costume edition. I'm feeling too tired and/or lazy to have any wacky or edgy insight today so please enjoy the following pics and descriptions.

Our week started off on Monday with a very (those italics are for you Jack) spooky FHE where we carved a pumpkin and decorated a Haunted Gingerbread House. Here is toots making the scariest Frankenstein face that she can muster.

P was a bit freaked out by the pumpkin guts. She would not stick her hand up in there.

Here's a nickel's worth of free advice for those who attempt to decorate a gingerbread house. Frost the roof FIRST before attempting to stick the house together. The weight of the roof causes irreparable damage to the foundation. Mudslides, fires, things the little gingerbread HOA will not cover.

P may or may not have eaten a little bit of the black frosting. I'll let you guess.

Friday night the kids headed out for the pre Treat or Trick - Trunk or Treat which allows them to maximize their candy earning potential. Below are several pics from that event and then a couple of 'action' shots from the actual Trick or Treat.

Hank aka Pony Boy. You do NOT want to start a knife fight with Hank. I know from experience dude.

Hope everyone had as wonderful and fun of a Halloween as my sweet Princesses did.

Ben Folds Five Reunion - Final Update

Finally. Myspace has added the BF5 Reunion Concert. It can be seen in its entirety on www.myspace.com/fronttoback. Not only is that a catchy name it's good advice (front to back) especially for the ladies.

Watch it. Love it. See why KG cried.

Here are a few clips to wet the appetite of even the most cynical Skog Blog reader. On this first clip it was at approximately the 1:41 mark when KG may or may not have gotten a bit emotional...
